Grade: ER 316 L
CWB, CE and BD approved
The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) has approved ER-316L for a variety of applications, including:
- Pressure vessels and tanks: ER-316L is commonly used for welding pressure vessels and tanks in the chemical, oil and gas, and pharmaceutical industries.
- Piping systems: The alloy is also suitable for welding piping systems in a range of applications, including food processing, water treatment, and petrochemical.
- Marine applications: ER-316L has good corrosion resistance in marine environments, making it suitable for use in boats, ships, and offshore platforms.
- Power generation: The alloy is used for welding components in power generation plants, including nuclear, fossil-fueled, and renewable energy facilities.
- Aerospace and defense: ER-316L is also used in the aerospace and defense industries for welding components in aircraft, missiles, and satellites.
Some of the properties of ER-316L alloy include:
- High strength: ER-316L has high tensile strength, which is important for structural applications.
- Corrosion resistance: The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in a range of environments, including acidic and high-temperature environments.
- Good weldability: ER-316L has good weldability and produces clean welds with good penetration.
- Low carbon content: ER-316L has a low carbon content, which reduces the risk of carbide precipitation and ensures good intergranular corrosion resistance.
- High chromium and nickel content: ER-316L has a high chromium and nickel content, which improves the corrosion resistance and strength of the weld.
